So before we get too whipped up in the woo-hoo that is 2015… got one more end-of-year wrap-up for you.
I’ll be straight up as always: I haven’t had a ton of space for reading this year. (Be it baby, business or Feminine Magic®, I’ve been in full-on immersion mode of one kind or another all year long.)
But I did read some money books. Some really, really good money books.
In my business school for conscious women entrepreneurs we focus on the money. A lot. The whole name of our game is income breakthroughs. Because highly awakened, conscious women with money will change the world.
As with all good things, income breakthroughs start with relationship: paying attention, getting to know and learning as much as you can about the object of your dizzying affection. In this case, your money.
So getting some money reading in is a good thing and we had some gems this past year. Without further ado, here are my top 5 favorite money books for 2014.
(Note: not all of these were published in 2014; in fact, one of them is creakyold. Good reads are timeless, are they not?)
1. Profit First, Mike Michalowicz
Holy freakin’ sh*t – if there is one book on this list that will change your life, this is it.
Okay, so ALL of these books can change your life. But this one is especially mission critical for entrepreneurs who are struggling with the fact that it’s so easy to make money (yes, really) and yet so frickin’ hard to keep money.
Just about every successful woman entrepreneur I know has had to deal with the feast-or-famine rollercoaster. This book presents a clear, simple, no-nonsense solution that goes to work immediately. Mike makes some bold promises, such as to deliver a simple system to transform any business from a cash-eating monster to a money-making machine and a way to turn a profit on your very next deposit and the power to guarantee that profitability. And then he keeps them – in a simple, elegant, anyone-can-do-it way.
Best of all, Mike is a guy who’s been there. Every entrepreneur who has ever felt shame around her money situation will be heartened by his personal story of cash crash and redemption. He gets it, he really gets it. And he’s gonna love you back to financial wholeness.
If you’re running your own business, this one is not optional.
2. Money: Master The Game, Tony Robbins
Another gamechanger. Tony has worked a slew of money miracles in this book, not the least of which being, oh, I don’t know, convincing the best financial minds on the planet to dole out real-world investment action plans that are actually workable and about as near-foolproof as you can get. Talk about leveling the playing field.
Aside from its practicality, what I love most about this book is the heart and intention with which it was created. Tony wrote it because we desperately need a better way, and despite a ton of promises, our government has yet to step up to the plate to provide it. So he wrote this 600-page breezy read (!) that lays a path to financial freedom that anyone can follow.
Then he donated all his royalties to charity. In advance.
This is what personal mastery, power and influence are for. Us new feminine money models can learn a thing or two about a thing or two from Tony’s example.
3. The Law of Divine Compensation, Marianne Williamson
We all know that our current paradigms of money and wealth aren’t working. The question is, what does?
Enter Marianne, with this simple, elegant book of metaphysical teachings applied to wealth, or as she puts it, “a guide to spiritual principles that pave the way to material abundance.”
Metaphysical teaching, applied to wealth or anything else, is a lifelong study. At the end of the day, the principles are simple but not obvious. This book is a perfect primer and full of Goddess Winks – those transmissions direct from the Divine that you need to hear in the moment, the moment that you hear them.
4. You Too, Can Be Prosperous, Robert A Russell
This is one of those metaphysical classics you’ve probably never heard of. It’s the one I had in my back pocket on walks with my daughter, at the beginning of the year when we were re-launching The Essentials Training.
The launch of Essentials was a huge financial risk, because we’d set aside all of our other winning programs to focus on it. Indeed, almost none of the revenue from Goddess Business School® in 2014 came from ANY of the programs that comprised the bulk of our revenue in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
So I needed something that was going to keep my head on straight and aligned with the Truth-with-a-capital-T: that there are Laws, and we can lean into those Laws, and when we act according to Law, we can expect specific outcomes, every time, without fail.
While this is not the only text out there that will serve this purpose for you, it’s a good one. For us, it directly lead to exceeding our revenue for yet another year in a row, from what were essentially all-new income streams. For that it earns a place on the list.
5. Sacred Success: A Course In Financial Miracles, Barbara Stanny
A brilliant concept whose time has truly come, this book is a step-by-step primer on how to claim your power as a woman by taking control of your finances and creating true wealth and freedom, in alignment with those metaphysical principles and Laws again. The work is up to you, but with this powerhouse of a book at your side, you’ll have a path to follow.
BONUS: One Simple Idea: How Positive Thinking Reshaped Modern Life, Mitch Horowitz
Not a money book per se, but as this will be the only book roundup for 2014, I had to mention it.
I met Mitch after his first book came out (Occult America). I instantly recognized him as a kindred spirit – someone who has devoted his life to legitimizing the esoteric ideas that have become the foundation of modern Western cultural thinking. (Note: the man is the longtime EIC of Tarcher/Penguin arguably the best and most respected publisher of transformational books out there.)
Here he presents a meticulously researched, fair and downright fun history of the one simple idea that has shaped us the most: thoughts are things.
If you’re a teacher of prosperity consciousness, magic, manifestation, Universal Law or New Thought, you need to read Mitch’s book. Because you need to get schooled in where sh*t actually comes from if you’re going to be passing the torch. And did I mention that it’s a fun read?
Also not-to-be-missed is Mitch’s Facebook page, where you can find pictures of him sporting the best damn collection of classic rock T-shirts ever. And me, gushing.
Finally, a special shout-out…
To our client Kate Large, whose Game Of Life Workbook hit the charts this year. In mid-2013, Kate left a voicemail : “Elizabeth, Florence told me I’m supposed to call you.” Thus began the launch of her workbook based on Florence Scovel Shinn’s prosperity manual, with accompanying online course. It’s a true co-creation with not only Spirit, but Florence herself, and brings this important work to an all-new audience. I still feel way blessed that we were a part of it.
Go here to find out more about the workbook and Kate’s course. (The course may be closed – get on the waiting list – but you can find the workbook on Amazon.) Or here to check out the rest of Kate’s work.
And there we have it – prosperity classics new and old, to dig into in the new year. May 2015 bring wealth for all.
Love and magic,
